The Process of Solar Power Generation Explained

The process of solar power generation is not as complicated as many thinks. In a nutshell it can be explained in just a couple of sentence. Basically, using a photovoltaic technology produces the solar power. During this process, some collecting devices absorb the particles of light known as photons. The energy produced will then be released during the process of absorption and will be transferred as the electrical current. Let’s try to dig dipper to further understand the process.

To produce solar power in your home, you will need solar cells or also known as photovoltaic cells. These cells need to be exposed to the source of the solar energy, which is sunlight. The solar cells are actually made of thin semiconductors like that of silicon and is either given a negative or positive charge. So how does it generate electricity? Well when the sunlight hits the solar cell, the electrons will be displaced from the thin semiconductors. When this happens the negative and positive charge can now be directed and controlled using a cable.

A single solar cell will not be able to produce a useful amount of electricity so there is a need to link many solar cells together. These collections of solar cells will be mounted into a panel to create a module. This will be organized and will be turned into an array. Now when enough electricity is generated, a cable will direct it to an electrical inverter. What this does is change the direct current that was produced into an alternating current.
Why does it need to be converted? This is because alternating current is the standard type of electricity being used in most power outlets. So all it does is make the energy into a usable form. This will then be stored or distributed for usage. For storage, most solar panel manufacturers use rechargeable batteries. This will allow the energy to be used for a later time when needed. So the more rechargeable battery being used, the higher storage capacity it is for usable energy form or electricity.
